Winter in Prescott: Snow, Cozy Cabins & Arizona's Christmas City

November 25, 2025 · The Owners

Yes, it snows in Arizona. Discover Prescott in winter — fireside cabins, holiday lights on Courthouse Plaza, and why "Arizona's Christmas City" is a perfect cold-weather getaway.

Mention “Arizona” and most people picture saguaros and sunburn. Mention it to a local in December and they’ll tell you about Prescott — where it actually snows, the Courthouse glows with thousands of lights, and a cabin with a fireplace is the whole point of the trip.

Yes, it snows here

Up at 6,270 feet in the pines, winter is the real thing — snow dusts the trees several times a season, nights drop below freezing, and the town trades summer’s lake crowds for quiet trails and woodsmoke in the air. It rarely shuts the town down — but it’s more than enough to make a hot tub feel earned and a fire feel essential.

Arizona’s Christmas City

Prescott leans all the way into the season. It’s officially nicknamed “Arizona’s Christmas City,” and downtown becomes the centerpiece: Courthouse Plaza is wrapped in lights, and the calendar fills with parades, a tree-lighting celebration, and a downtown music night where dozens of shops host live performers.

Most of these happen in late November and December — but exact dates shift each year, so check the official Prescott and Chamber of Commerce calendars when you’re planning, and book lodging early because holiday weekends fill up.

The case for a winter cabin

Summer gets the crowds, but winter might be the most cabin-y season of all:

  • Fireplaces and hot tubs do their best work when it’s cold out.
  • Lower rates and fewer people than peak summer.
  • Cozy downtown days — coffee, galleries, and a warm saloon on Whiskey Row.
  • Snow play without the long drive or lift lines of bigger mountain towns.

Plan your winter stay

Both of our cabins are built for the cold months — wood-burning fireplaces, hot tubs, fast Wi-Fi for a slow morning in, and full kitchens for a big holiday breakfast. The Groom Creek Getaway is roomy enough for a family gathering; The Forest Cabin is the snug, tucked-away option.

Thinking about the holidays? Check availability early — Arizona’s Christmas City is no secret. And if you’re weighing your options, our things-to-do guide covers what’s open and worth doing once the temperature drops.
